14 the question was, "what trust can a faithful christian whose relative is disfellowshipped have?".
after awhile when no one else raised their hands ofs did, and was called on.. ofs commented, "one of jw can have the trust that god will lovingly give them the ability to uphold the disfellowshipping arrangement by totally shunning family members.".
This is an issue that is incredibly inconsistent across JWdom. Some JWs shun but don't call it shunning. Some JWs shun and proudly call it shunning. Some JWs don't really shun but pretend to in front of each other to avoid "stumbling."
Sounds kind of like your congregation is mostly the former.

All this money-begging from the Borg lately tells me they're worried and that the donations aren't coming in as much as they used to.
In the countries that aren't in poverty, lots of JWs are leaving. The ones who remain are so hardcore that they don't earn any extra to donate. In the countries where JWs are still growing, everyone is so poor they don't have extra to donate either.
But the real estate sales in Brooklyn ought to fund them for awhile yet, unfortunately.

She put so much work into it and is clearly so genuine and heartfelt.
basically, from what i can tell from the new return to jehovah brochure, is that the governing body is now offering amnesty to anyone who has been gone from the congregation but now wants to return.. it claims it doesn't matter what sins you've done, or what caused you to leave, if you repent to jehovah and ask the elders to help you, and return to the meetings, you'll be warmly welcomed with no disciplinary action or judgment against you..
Their success rate at conversions is abysmal. Their success rate at getting inactives back in is slightly better. It's just a numbers game.
I had a JW who used to be a neighbor of mine stop by with an elder to invite me to the "special talk" a month or so ago. He's a genuine old guy but the comment earlier in this thread about taking advantage of the less educated reminded me of that visit. Neither the former neighbor or the elder are particularly deep thinkers. He had just run into my parents a week or two earlier at some event and it reminded him he hadn't seen me in five years. I actually felt bad for them for wasting their time with me and wasting their lives in a cult.
I guess my point is, they're going to have to make it somewhat easier to return (for inactives, not apostates) if they don't want their growth numbers to keep shrinking.

My daughter turns 15 next month and I'm so glad we stopped going to the Kingdom Hall five years ago. Kids, especially teenagers, need to experience life and be free to make choices for themselves without coercion or indoctrination. became a jw in the late 1960s ... looked forward to 1975 as early as 1968 ... so, out of a sense of duty and spirit inspired organizational hounding ... when 1974 arrived, i sold the house, sold the car, sold the wife and kids ... then moved to where the great are needed ... 1975 came and went ... .
so did ... 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 walk away from the organization ... 1993, 1994 then it was 80 years of a special mighty generation since 1914 ... finally, 20 years later it was 1995 when i was forcibly disassociated by wts legal department ... 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 ... yikes!
when i first came to this forum i was of the belief that those of us who were still in due to family reasons were few in numbers perhaps one in a thousand in the jws.
soon i came to the realization that there were many more.
we have dozens of posters here who are mentally out but still in.
is your sense of loneliness (if you are lonely) heightened when you see what they share?
how do cope (if you are coping) with a sense of isolation, of not having a significant other?.
i know some single persons who are very happy as they are.
